Visit to the Teich Ornithological Reserve

A town which is filled with wonders, Arcachon has been spoiled by Mother Nature, not only for its location, but also for the beauty of its fauna and flora. Thanks to its well-known bay, it is chock- full of animal and plant species.

If there is one activity that you should not miss in this part of France, it would be to make an ornithological visit. The Teich Ornithological Reserve, located on the shores of the basin, is a place of international renown. Its location and geography are particularly appreciated by birds. It is a beautifully preserved natural area that has been developed so as to make it possible for  tourists to gaze at the birds without disturbing them.

The park extends over 120 hectares, with meadows, marshes, forests, reed beds, but also lagoons. You will be able to leave from the continental sector to the sea shores of the bay of Arcachon in order to appreciate the beauty of the nature of this municipality, while looking at various species of birds.

There you will meet sedentary birds, living permanently in the surrounding areas. And if you arrive at the right time, you will get also the chance to see migratory birds that use this park as a stopover. Because of this, you will see a large number of birds, 317 different species. In this list, 80 specimens are sedentary.

Obviously, the place is made for all types of visitors. You can go there with your family, with your loved one or with your friends. Different visiting formulas are indeed suggested, making it possible for you to choose the one that best suits your requirements. Rates are available from 8 € for adults and 6 € for children.

You must know that every landscape available in this natural park is crossed by a path, allowing you to stroll at your leisure, while observing the birds. In addition, you will find about twenty observation cabins, four elevated viewpoints, toilets and watering places at the entrance to the first third of the trail.

There are some tours which can be guided, making it possible for you to learn more about the bird types, their lifestyles, etc. Of course, you can also take pictures to immortalize this exceptional moment.
