Arcachon: The city of the four seasons
As unbelievable as it may seem, Arcachon does indeed have a city that follows the themes of the 4 seasons of the year: spring, summer, winter and autumn. When you are passing through this little bit of French world, do not be surprised if you were asked "the road that leads to autumn or what metro should be taken to reach the winter? ", These are the flagship expressions that the inhabitants of Arcachon are used during their daily lives.
The City of Spring
It is the city corresponding to the villages of Pereire and Abatilles. Who says "spring" says "colors." We can already imagine the surrounding areas which are highly contrasted and they are also with character. The Pereire family was the first people who has possessed a 41-hectare park, there was only the stables left on the avenue du Parc Pereire. The latter was then looted in 1957, but it was especially in the years 1977 that it was renovated with new plantations of pines. The aim of this action was to balance the coastal dune cordon.
For several years, the city of Spring was a country area sheltering a huge forest plot. Today it has become a residential area where you can see the famous Sainte-Anne des Abatilles, a pure wonder of nature which is enriched with calcium. The water of this geyser is especially ideal for thermal cures thanks to the non-existence of nitrate in its composition.
The summer city
The summer city was born during the opening of the first and large seaside bathing establishment for wealthy and affluent clients by François Legallais, a Breton sailor in the soul. It also offered thalassotherapy and climate therapy that led Arcachon to a more than promising destiny. As a result of this prowess, many cottages and villas have been built on the sea front. This is the big step that prefigures the "Summer City", but also the economic rebound of Arcachon.
Today, the summer city becomes the heart of the town with its characteristic markets and breweries that make it famous.
The City of Autumn
In theory, that latter concerns the districts of Saint-Fernand and the Aiguillon. There you will find the famous fishing port which was already present at the end of the First World War and a magnificent and immense marina. Around 1950, the city of Autumn saw a great economic boom thanks to its fishing activities and shipyards. Even today, its caisses continue to grow rich with its marina which has earned it a classification of "sailing station" since 1986. During a visit in the neighborhood, let yourself be overwhelmed with astonishment by discovering its hall and its wharf centralizing the best nautical patrimonies of the Basin: boat, sailboats, etc. The town of Autumn is mainly characterized by its houses with red tiles decorated with magnificent loggias where some climbing plants are growing.
The City of Winter
It was in 1857 that the latter was born thanks to the purchase of 60 ha of forest land undertaken by the brothers Pereire. This was with the aim of doing the expansion of the railway to Arcachon so that the "Sanatorium in the open" also called "Winter City" could be built. At the beginning, the neighborhood was only rubbed by the rich patients who move there to take advantage of the balsamic and iodized air that emerges there. In the 1862, casinos and residences began to be part of the decoration of the district. At the beginning of the 18th century, rich personalities from Bordeaux wanted to build magnificent dwellings in the city of Winter. Recently, the district is adhered among the inventories of the picturesque sites of Arcachon.
